Designed to Fit - Folding Tables for Any Space

Folding tables can be an elegant, integral part of designing a space. Folding tables offer key advantages over stationary furniture in portability, since they are easily moved and stored, and durability, with long-lasting construction of particle board and steel.

From a design standpoint, folding tables provide something even more intriguing: versatility. Folding tables can be rearranged to change the entire aspect of a space. Folding table designs complement activities from corporate training to restaurant seating to craft projects. Folding tables, by their changeableness, can do three things:

Fit the size and occupancy of the space
Fit the design to the function
Offer accessibility for wheelchairs, children, and other special groups

Fitting Tables to Size and Space

There are two things to consider when designing a room: how many people need to fit in there and what are they going to be doing. The shape of the table has a significant affect on how many people can be seated at the table. Round tables seat more people than rectangular; a round table 4' in diameter can comfortably seat eight people, while a 6' long table can seat six people. To fit more people in a room, use round tables instead of rectangular. However, seating at a round table makes it impossible for some people to see the front of a room, so, unless it is a small group activity like a workshop or a meal, round tables may not fit with every event.

These are good rules of thumb when designing a space for group seating:

Give each person about 30" of space.
Leave 42" between rows of tables, with a minimum of 36" around the perimeter of the room.
Leave 84" between the main tables at the front and the first row of seating.
Round tables seat more people than rectangle tables of the same length and fit in slightly smaller areas, which is very useful to seat more people or to fit unusually-shaped rooms.

Designed for Use

There are diverse designs for folding tables, matched to different potential uses. Two folding table attributes influence use:

Width and shape
Folding tables for training are narrower, for seating down only one side. This allows people to see the front of the room easily. Folding tables for general sitting are deeper, with seating along both sides, or round.

Leg position

Different table leg shapes accommodate different seating arrangements. C-legged tables allow chair to pull in close, since they have bars under the top of the table and as a base, with the legs on one side, so that the base forms a C. Some seminar tables put the legs in the corners, which allow people to be seated at the ends of the table.

Folding tables come in different designs for the maximum comfort of the people using them. Identify the uses that patrons or guests most often have, from training presentations to small workshops, and find the style that best suits that need.

When Accessibility Matters

Folding table styles can be modified to improve usability for special groups. Assisted living centers may require higher tables so that wheelchairs can pull close to the tables; schools or daycare centers tend to use shorter tables for children's activities. Standard tables are 29" or 30" high for regular seating. Higher-quality folding table manufacturers provide folding tables with special heights, since wheelchairs can require 36" or more of clearance and children's tables are shorter, around 22".

Folding tables are a perfect choice for places which serve the general public, since they can provide temporary and portable seating so that every person is accommodated.

Stylish Advantage

The greatest asset of folding tables are their versatility -- portability, diverse styles, and functionality. Folding tables uniquely combine functionality, changeability, and modern design for any space and occasion -- providing usability with style.
